Written summary

A clear medical summary of the key information covered in this video

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is treatment given before surgery. It may shrink a breast tumour, make breast-conserving surgery possible, treat microscopic disease early and show how the cancer responds to medication.

It is most useful for particular tumour subtypes and stages and is not automatically needed for every breast cancer. The sequence of treatment should be agreed after imaging, biopsy and multidisciplinary review.
