Written summary

A clear medical summary of the key information covered in this video

Breast MRI is a highly sensitive test used selectively—for example in some high-risk screening programmes, to define disease extent, to investigate an occult primary tumour or to assess certain implant concerns.

Its sensitivity can also produce false-positive findings and extra biopsies. The most appropriate test depends on the symptom, age, examination and previous imaging, so MRI should be requested for a clear clinical reason.
